Road caves in near Gemini Flyover, a bus and a car are trapped in Chennai

A bus and a car were trapped in a hole after the road suddenly caved in on Anna Salai, Mount Road, Chennai, near the US consulate today 09.04.2017 afternoon. No casualties have been reported as the passengers in both vehicles were evacuated immediately.

According to reports, the bus with a few passengers was at the bus stop around 2:30 pm when mild tremors were felt. Within moments it fell into a sudden cave in the road and was followed by a car that was trying to overtake the bus.

No major injuries were caused and passengers were taken out of the vehicles. The police have cordoned off the area and are in the process of recovering the bus and car.

Sudden caving in of roads has often been reported since the construction of the underground Metrorail stretch began along this arterial road.

25 passengers travelling in a bus had a narrow escape as a road in Chennai caved in suddenly creating a sinkhole. A portion of Anna Salai, one of the busiest roads in Chennai caved in on Sunday causing damage to a bus and a car. While many sustained injuries in the accident that was caused by the road caving in, everyone was rescued immediately.
