Padmavati controversy : Deepika Padukone facing threats

It seems that there is no end for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ starring Deepika Padukone as Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji. The filmmakers are going to release soon but they are facing constant opposition in the form of violence and threats from Rajput Karni Sena. This Sena has disrupted the shoot of the film in Jaipur. In a recent interview, Deepika criticized the protests by saying “It's appalling, it's absolutely appalling. What have we gotten ourselves into? And where have we reached as a nation? We have regressed," she said, adding, "The only people we are answerable to is the censor board, and I know and I believe that nothing can stop the release of this film." She also adds “Noting and no one can stop this film.”

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subramanian Swamy hit out at Deepika for calling the nation regressive. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "Cine actress Deepika Padukone giving us the lecture on regression!! A nation can progress only when it is the regression from her perspective."

In response to Deepika’s remarks, Rajput Karni Sena member Mahipal Singh Makranaissued a fresh threat today in a self-made video. He said, "Rajputs never raise a hand on women but if need be, we will do to Deepika what Lakshman did to Shurpanakha." On the other hand, Lokendra Singh Kalvi, Rajput Karni Sena chief said they will call for a bandh on December 1, 2017, the film's release date. He said, "We will gather in lakhs, our ancestors wrote history with blood we will not let anyone blacken it; we will call for Bharat bandh on December 1."

Due to these threaten calls; Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis is taking adequate measures to ensure Deepika’s safety from the protestors and he already provided security to the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
